Help students to understand the real meaning of the Underground Railroad and its relevance today.
These thought-provoking programs provide an in-depth look at the issues of the Underground Railroad,
Slavery in America and the Civil Rights Movement, as well as related contemporary topics such as issues
of race, human rights and community activism. The Freedom Center content correlates
to state standards in Social Studies, American History, Civics and Global Issues. Through SAFARI Montage,
users can integrate this stirring and inspiring content into playlists and multimedia lesson plans.
Freedom Heroes profiles everyday people who have done extraordinary things to promote positive change
in their communities, including, Arnice Smith, Azim Khamisa, Caridad Asesnsio, Craig Kielburger, Daniel
Beaty, Ernest Michel, Gillian Caldwell, Jean Robert Cadet, Karin Rivas, Modeane Thompson, Sister Beth and
Taron Lexton/Mary Shuttleworth.
Freedom Stations programs feature historic Underground Railroad sites and provide viewers with
compelling features of the historic communities, people and beliefs that were central to the Underground
Railroad, such as, Cincinnati, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan & Buxton, Ontario, Oberlin, Ohio, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, Ripley, Ohio and Rochester, New York.
